Learning To Forgive
I recently received the following e-mail from a person that had viewed The Forgiveness Road web site. Below that e-mail is my reply. I pray that this page will be a help to you. Don Searles Hello Don. I appreciate for putting together such a website which is so helpful for people who struggle in the area of forgiveness. I have been struggling this issue for over 2 years now since the death of my younger brother. One blame lead to another, piling up until it's destroying me a believer. Last night, I begged from God in prayer to deal with it and let the Him clear up or cleanse my heart totally. And lo and behold, I found your website just an hour ago. I have asked Him all kinds of His provision for my family's needs. He Himself revealed to me that it is about this great issue for un-forgiveness that is hindering His provision. True enough, I must admit, this is the very thing I need to fix first and get rid of and not those issues needing His provisions. Don, please pray for me and my wife because she has the same thing towards the same people. We both want to be FREE!!! I just started to read an article in your website and it's helpful. Your prayer is very much appreciated John Thursday, August 26, 2010 Hello John, Thank you for your letter and kind words. It gives me joy that the Forgiveness Road site is a blessing to you. God instructed us to forgive because he wants us, YOU, to be happy. He knew that un-forgiveness causes us to be unhappy and miserable. Forgiveness is not letting the person that hurt you off the hook. It is letting you off the hook of carrying a huge gunny sack of bricks on your back called hate and bitterness. We were not born with the ability to forgive; it is something that we must learn. You did not learn to walk the first time you pulled yourself up from crawling. You got up, tried to walk, and fell down. You got up tried to walk, and fell down. You failed again and again until through perseverance you learned to walk. The keys were, you started trying and never gave up. Learning to forgive is the same way. Most people never learn to forgive because they never try. They never reach out for resources that will help them learn. They are hypnotized by their hate and bitterness and do nothing to learn how to forgive. You are different than most people. You have followed the admonitions in Proverbs 1 to seek knowledge and wisdom. You have reached out to find resources to learn to forgive. God will honor your efforts, and as you continue to search and study, you will learn to forgive and be FREE. Just like learning to walk, you will take a few steps today down the forgiveness road and fall down. You will get up and take a few more steps tomorrow, and before long, it will come, and you will forgive and be free. As the old saying goes, “God helps them that help themselves.” The keys are: In Christ’s Love Don Searles
